I did a terrible job of keeping this site up to date in 2025!
Lot’s of folks talk about the slump after an MFA program. A year or two of recovery from such an intense commitment. I experienced something like this after the Taos Toolbox workshop, and I haven’t been immune from the phenomenon after my MFA.
But I have been doing some cool stuff. I just haven’t had the bandwidth to update this site. An MFA can be a life-changing program, like Taos Toolbox and my black belt test in Aikido, I consider it a transformative ordeal. It takes some time after such an event to get your life back in balance, to catch-up on obligations you may have put on the back burner, and to recenter your life. Updating my website wasn’t the priority.
So, here is my catch-up post!
It might be worth noting that while in the Stonecoast program I transitioned to a new job. I actually did a job interview while at residency, in my hotel room, and it required that I develop and present proposal. I’ll also note that I eventually got that job, and, while it’s very, very demanding, it’s also the best job I’ve ever had.
WorldCon in Seattle 2025
I was on panels and stuff! I did my first conference panels and presentations in 2024, presenting an early version of my MFA academic paper at the Virtual International Convention for the Fantastic in the Arts (V-ICFA), and sitting on a Nebula Conference panel on alternatives to violence in game writing. But 2025 was my first experience as a WorldCon Presenter.
I’ve updated my Events page to reflect that I moderated a panel, I presented my academic paper again, and I sat on a panel on audio fiction, with a fantastic moderator (whose example I tried to follow on my own panel) and an amazing panel all-around, that also included a couple of my literary and audio fiction heroes, James Patrick Kelly and Stefan Rudnicki.
It was all an amazing experience! And I also coordinated a table in the dealer’s room for the Stonecoast MFA program, and that led to some amazing connections.
There were some other things I might have posted, but this is the most substantial, and I’ve updated the Events page with additional details for last year.
